Formula
TDEE = BMR × activity factor (1.2–1.9).
About this calculator
Estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, and see calorie or kilojoule targets for weight maintenance, loss, or gain. The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to estimate BMR, which is then multiplied by an activity factor to estimate TDEE.
How to use
- 1
Select your sex, then enter your age, weight in kg, and height in cm.
- 2
Choose your typical activity level from the dropdown.
- 3

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest to maintain vital functions. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) includes BMR plus calories burned through physical activity and digestion. TDEE is your actual daily calorie need.
Which equation is most accurate?
The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is generally considered the most accurate for the general population. The Katch-McArdle equation can be more accurate for lean individuals if body fat percentage is known, but it requires accurate body fat measurement.
How do I use the results to lose weight?
To lose weight, consume fewer calories than your TDEE. A deficit of about 500 kcal/day typically leads to 0.5 kg (1 lb) of weight loss per week. The calculator provides targets for mild, moderate, and aggressive weight loss.
