Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between rounding to decimal places and significant figures?
Decimal places round to a fixed number of digits after the decimal point (e.g., 2 decimal places: 3.14159 → 3.14). Significant figures round to a fixed number of meaningful digits overall, regardless of the decimal point (e.g., 3 significant figures: 1234 → 1230, and 0.001234 → 0.00123).
How does the calculator handle rounding of numbers ending in 5?
It uses standard rounding (half away from zero). For example, 2.5 rounds to 3, and -2.5 rounds to -3.
Can I round to the nearest ten, hundred, or other multiple?
Currently, the calculator only supports rounding to a number of decimal places or significant figures. To round to a multiple, you can use the significant figures mode with appropriate precision, but for exact multiples like 10 or 0.25, you would need a different tool.
